Blogs have been around for years, but their popularity has been eclipsed by social media management. While they both fall under the sphere of web marketing, too many times to count, people have neglected their blog in favor of their social media presence. This is a huge mistake. In reality, both blogs and social media have their own uses that work best when they work together. Therefore, if you want to effectively perform web marketing, you need to utilize both.
First of all, you need to get the differences between the two forms of communication. Blogs are longstanding, more detailed, and have the room to talk about a wide range of topics in a single post. Social media is much more ephemeral, has vastly less space, and really should be only about a single topic at a time. If you attempt to use one when you really should be making use of the other, you’re going to end up with terrible results.
For example, if you have a long, nuanced statement as part of your web marketing campaign, don’t try to squeeze it into a Tweet! You only have 140 characters, so you have absolutely no space to show any nuance or detail. On the other hand, if you only have something that will stick around for a sentence at most, trying to expand that out into a blog post would result in just a long string of meaningless words.
This is not to declare that the two of them can’t work together. If you understood the previous example, you probably have already figured out where I’m going. You write a blog post, and then you post a link to it on your social media. Or, if you have some sort of contest, you can write about it on your blog but have it be held on social media. The two of them work extremely well together.
However, you need to be sure that your message remains consistent across all your platforms. Everybody wants to see a businessthat knows what it writes about, so, if they see two different outlets saying two different things, they will think that your business isn’t extremely good at its job. Even if you vary the tone too much persons will question, so, you really need to stay on top of this problem with some good social media management.
